AMS Principal's Message

Good Day, AMS Family.

My name is Doug Nebel and this will be my second year as the Principal for Amesbury Middle School.  This summer, our Team has been diligently planning and preparing to provide the students of Amesbury the best educational experience possible.  Our main goal at Amesbury Middle School is to make all decisions based on what is in the best interests for our students.

Some points on my philosophy of middle school education:

All middle school students can learn and achieve grade level standards.  Our job as educators is to challenge our students to succeed while providing the proper support based on individual needs.  We have and will maintain high expectations for every student.

Middle school academic work is difficult and your student will grapple with challenging concepts and new knowledge.  It is in this struggle that learning occurs.  Students will make mistakes, but they will learn from them, and become better because of them.

The middle school student requires strict structure to the day in order to thrive.  The middle school mind must be tasked with challenging academics, but we must balance these with opportunities for creative expression and socialization with peers.  Our daily schedule will reflect these aspects of excellent middle school education, balanced throughout the day to allow for structured transitions.

This philosophy guides every aspect of how students are scheduled and how the school day is designed.  This is challenging work, but is accomplished through a thoughtful and deliberate Team effort.  Again, all of this is accomplished under the umbrella of what is best for our students. Whether you are a student, parent/guardian, staff member, or community member, you are an important part of the AMS Family. Every day I consider myself incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to lead this school. I am so proud to be a part of such a caring, invested community.

Thank you and Welcome aboard!
